Guide
From installed to your first posted clip.
First run
Open VodMine from the Start menu or the desktop shortcut. A small window opens, and your browser opens the app. Keep the window open, because closing it stops VodMine.
The Setup page checks your disk and memory, asks you to agree to the terms, then shows the next steps. You can leave and come back to it at any time. VodMine also downloads ffmpeg, the program that makes the videos, about 104 MB, once.
Connect an AI
VodMine needs an AI to judge moments and write hooks. Without one, it still cuts clips from the loudest chat spikes, but it can't tell good from bad.
The cheapest way in is OpenRouter's free models:
- Make a free key at openrouter.ai/keys.
- Open the Settings tab, find OpenRouter, paste the key and press Save.
- Under Agents, choose OpenRouter and a model for each job. Free models show as free.
Free models allow about 50 requests a day, and may use what you send for training. For regular use, a paid key or your own AI chat works better.
The sight test
The Watcher and Final Check jobs look at the clip. Providers don't always tell the truth about what their models can see, so VodMine plays each model a short video with random words on screen and checks it can read them. Press Test sight beside a job. A model that fails can still do jobs that only read text.
Use your AI chat
If you pay for Claude Code or Codex, it can do the judging on your plan. Open a terminal in VodMine's install folder and run one of these:
vodmine connect claude
vodmine connect codex
Start a new chat and say run the VodMine sight test
. Then choose My AI chat for each job on the Settings tab. Moments now wait in line for you, so when you're ready, say work through my VodMine moments
.
It only works while your chat is open, it uses your plan's limits, and it sees frames and the transcript rather than the video. The Scout job can't use it, because a whole stream's transcript is too much to send through a chat.
Add channels and VODs
Paste a link on the Sources tab:
- A channel, like
twitch.tv/somebody. VodMine checks it every few minutes and records whenever it's live. - A finished video, from Twitch or YouTube. VODs go one at a time, while live channels run side by side.
Each source shows what it's doing right now. YouTube sometimes blocks a connection after a lot of downloads. VodMine notices, waits an hour and tries again, while Twitch keeps going.
Review clips
Finished clips land under To review. Watch each one, fix the title or caption if you like, and press Approve or Reject. Tap a reason if one fits, like Weak hook or No payoff.
Your calls are the best thing you can give it. The judge reads them as examples next time, and once you've made enough, it can write a taste profile on the Settings tab, which you can edit. Reject freely, because rejects teach it the most.
You decide how picky it is. The Judge scores every moment out of 10, and the Minimum virality score on the Settings tab sets the line. Anything below it is thrown out before it's rendered, so a higher number means fewer clips.
Post clips
Open an approved clip and press Post or download.
By hand: download the video and copy the caption. No accounts needed.
Through Zernio: make a Zernio account, connect your TikTok, YouTube or Instagram there, and paste its API key on the Settings tab. Then tick the accounts for each clip, make your choices and press Post. On TikTok, its rules mean you choose the audience yourself every time, and comments, duets and stitches start off.
Change the caption for each platform. Zernio's rules ban repeatedly posting identical content across accounts or platforms. If TikTok's direct posting is full, send it to your TikTok inbox as a draft and finish it in the app.
Autopilot
The Autopilot tab lets VodMine do the clicking. Everything on it is off until you turn it on.
- Approve clips for me. Pick a score. Clips that score at least that much are approved by themselves, and the rest wait for you. A clip where a slur can be heard always waits for you.
- Post approved clips for me. Tick the accounts to post to, and answer the questions for each one. Then pick when: right away, or only at the times you add. Pick the days, and the most posts a day on each account.
When a day is full, the extra clips wait for the next open time, and the Coming up list shows when each one goes. You can post one now or cancel it. VodMine has to be running for scheduled posts to go out.
TikTok gets drafts from Autopilot unless you change it. Each clip lands in your TikTok inbox, and you post it from the TikTok app, because TikTok wants a person to confirm each post. You can switch a TikTok account to posting straight away, choose who can see the posts and whether people can comment, duet or stitch, and tick that you accept the risk. TikTok could delete those posts or limit your account for it. If TikTok's direct posting is full at the time, the clip goes to your inbox instead.
Autopilot never approves for you unless you've turned that on, and what it posts is still yours, so set the score high enough that you trust it.
Command line
Run these from VodMine's install folder. Add --json to most of them for output a script can read.

When something's wrong
- No clips are appearing
- Check the Sources tab says the farm is running and the channel is live. Quiet chats make few spikes, and the judge throws out most of what it finds. That's normal.
- Every moment gets rejected
- Try a different stream first. If it keeps happening, check the job has a model set on the Settings tab, then look at the reasons it gives. If you've set a Minimum virality score, it may be too high.
- Rendering failed, or the PC ran out of memory
- Close other big programs. Rendering and speech recognition are the heaviest parts, and VodMine runs them one at a time.
- Your AI chat says it has no VodMine tools
- It can look before VodMine has finished starting. Wait a few seconds and ask again.
- A YouTube video won't download
- It may be age-restricted, private or members-only, and VodMine doesn't sign in to YouTube. Pick another video.
- Something else is broken
- Report a bug. That page says what to send, including where VodMine keeps its log.
